Parents & Family Resources Overview
Pre-Transfer Advising is for prospective transfer students prior to their admission to UMD. Advisors help students determine how previous coursework will apply to University of Maryland degrees, identify remaining general education and major requirements, and estimate time to graduation. Pre-Transfer Advising is most helpful for students at Maryland Community Colleges and who are at least one year from transferring. The more students take ownership of their education and for planning to transfer the smoother the transition is from one institution to the other.
UMD has a public transfer course database where students may view how courses transfer into the University of Maryland.
Questions regarding the admission process, deadlines, chances of admission or the application to the University of Maryland should be directed to the and
Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Parents & Family can assist in the pre-transfer advising process by empowering students to do the following:
- Contact a Pre-Transfer Advisor directly via email, through an advising appointment or during our walk in advising hours.
- Visit the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to access applications, application deadlines, and application checklists.
- Complete and submit the Pre-Advising Worksheet.
Once a student is admitted, the Office of Parent and Family Affairs provides resources, services, and programs for parents and family members of undergraduate students.
